The Statistician will be responsible for the analysis and interpretation of data from various sources and for a variety of needs. The individual must be able to present the results/findings to Product Consultants/Business Analysts, Model Architects, and the Technology VP through reports, charts, tables, and slide presentations using established statistical methods as are appropriate to the objectives.
DIRECT RESPONSIBILITIES
1. (75%) Analyze/interpret data and present results using established statistical methods and determine the appropriate statistical method(s) to apply given the data set and requirements.
2. (20%) Research predictive modeling methods and work with Model Architect and Strategic Business stakeholder(s) in developing new modeling algorithms to be used in MPSI software and other solutions.
3. Attend applicable conferences, seminars, etc. on new statistically-based predictive modeling methods, with approval from manager.
4. Actively participate in project meetings by offering feedback on assigned tasks and gather additional information from internal members linked to the analysis project.
5. Increase one’s skills on a continuous basis through SAS and other related certifications (as per Individual’s Goal Sheet).
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To perform the job successfully, the individual must manifest the requirements set forth below. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Requires at least 5-7 years of direct experience in statistical analysis in an actual business setting.
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics or a related engineering/science degree is preferred, but not required. A bachelor’s will substitute for 1 year of work experience; a master’s for 3 years.
Individual must also have a strong understanding in the following areas: Programming with a statistical package (e.g. SAS, JMP, Statistica) Familiarity with mathematical design software packages (e.g. Matlab) Have a minimum certification level of SAS - Advanced Programming Using Microsoft Office products, especially Excel and Access Statistical methods including: frequency analysis, correlation analysis, t-tests, ANOVA, LS Means, Chi-Square tests, regression, and spatial analytics Statistical concepts including: hypothesis testing, significance (p-values), variance, independence, normalizing data, residual error, transformations, spatial autocorrelation, bootstrapping, Monte Carlo, and others A strong understanding of database structures and queries (data mining) Demonstrate a high level of creativity in design of solutions Ability to communicate with others within the department and company Demonstrate a strong desire to work in a team environment and share knowledge.
