EPIQ Systems - New York, NY 2005-Present

UNIX Engineer

- Design and test solutions for upcoming software releases and redesign current environments for efficiency and consistency.

Senior UNIX Administrator

- Played a key role in maintaining more than 100 Sparc/RedHat server and almost 600T of SAN storage; designed and implemented new solutions to problems and new requirements from development and other departments.

Projects:

- Reliably migrated 15 SunFire v880/v890s with a total of 150T of storage from New York Data Center to New Jersey Data center with modest downtime - stabilized the environment and improved the speed; competently set up an immediate fallback plan in case of process failure

- Designed, implemented, and maintained a secured, highly available and one way ftp/scp/sftp server - an entry point for a quarter of the data wherein clients send about a Terabyte a month. Completely automated required UNIX administrative intervention once in two years to allow clients to send and receive data; eliminated atrocious outside Brute force assault.

- Planned and set up 3 node Oracle RAC clusters using Red Hat 5.2 and DL 585s with 128G of ram on a SAN with a Symmetrix DMX 3 Back end; initiated an effort to migrate Sybase to Oracle.

- Created a script to automate the growing of VERITAS Volumes, a daemon that starts with the server and checks periodically for over utilized file systems; it automatically sends alert e-mails should problem occurs.

Automations Engineer

- Provided solutions to automate tasks that needed to be accomplished regularly and offered a web interface to allow non-technical people to accomplish complex and tedious tasks easily and without error; built and maintained Solaris servers as necessary.

Script/web page examples:

- Developed a web page to create cases which consist of a Sybase database, Veritas volume and a text search database on either Texis or Idol enabling users to easily grow databases and Veritas volumes. This became the corner stone for creating and maintaining all company-hosted databases and allowed none technical people to easily and reliably do everything they needed to create and maintain all aspects of the databases from a systems standpoint; drastically took pressure off of all of IT as well as shortened the companies SLAs to the clients.

- Built a script that dumps Sybase databases and backs them up with TSM and then deleted the dumps after successful verification; monitored and reported how long it took and sent out alert emails if any of them failed.

- Created a web application that manages the creation and maintenance of an ftp/sftp/scp server users.

Darien Library - Darien, CT 2002-2005

Network Engineer

- Held responsible for maintaining, upgrading, and installing all new computers and server for the entire library.

- Oversaw Windows 2000/2003 network of 7 Windows servers, 2 Linux Servers, and 80+ staff and public access windows clients.

- Administered Windows 2003 servers, including Exchange, Active Directory, DHCP, and ISA. Automated tasks with custom VB scripts.
