Architect
And about me…
Who I am can best be shared through my own ‘telling’ on how I came to be in this place.
The work I was doing in architecture felt detached and often times irrelevant. Because I believe strongly in the necessity for work to be both creatively dynamic and socially responsible, I began to pursue work in the public sector. But I found that power, greed and politics created constraints beyond my talents to participate in a full and productive way. I moved beyond the boundaries of practice and academics to travel and to new experiences, which opened up worlds of luminous people, places and spaces for me. In a real and intimate way, I began to experience how space and architecture embodies and engenders divisions. As an open and multi-faceted person eager to integrate my skills and life experiences with new ones and participate in furthering growth, human dignity and empowerment, I began to document women’s space. I found myself engaged in a more relevant dialogue between individuals and communities.
About what I have been up to…
In the past few years my focus has been on creating an inclusive window on women’s space in the built environment. The work involves global architecture (past and present), designed to celebrate, house, sequestered, and identify women spatially.
About what I want to do…
A global collective window, a telling of women’s space has never been done in a comprehensive and available way. I feel it is through intimating the story of these spaces that I can contribute to cultivate awareness and compassion.
My intent is to draw focus to how the forms and surfaces that enclose space have impacted women. It is a ‘telling’ of the socio-spatial relationships between woman and space
About my formal and informal background…
My formal educational is architecture, interior design and international relations…. informally, I have recently discovered I have been working as an uninitiated ethnologist.
About where I am now…
There is still much work to be done. I feel the work should be comprehensive in order for it to be truly effective and available.
I would like to work in architecture again. I would like to balance architecture with my research in order to allow me to reach my goal of documenting a comprehensive collection of women’s spaces and resume the track of actually making spaces that are concerned with the transformation of dwelling space, open space and community space into harmonious inclusive environments.
