Skills: Transient transfections of cell lines with NMDA receptor DNA. Cell culture (mammalian and bacterial). Western blots, PCR, ELISA, mini/maxi preps of DNA. Beta-galactosidase assay and various cell death assays are also utilized.

Dissertation Title: An Examination of the Physiologically Relevant Chemistry of Nitroxyl (HNO)
Characterized the aerobic and anaerobic chemistry of nitrogen oxide molecules, which are thought to be involved in many physiological and toxicological processes.
Skills: Analysis of products from inorganic and organic reactions using absorbance, fluorescence, gas chromatography and mass spectroscopy. Beta-galactosidase assays in yeast cell cultures were used to measure protein inactivation. The yeast “DEL” and “ICR” assays were used to measure genotoxicity (in collaboration with Dr. Robert Schiestl in the School of Public Health).
