Senior classified staff responsible for computer systems at central location and 48 court sites. Duties included:
Maintaining and designing new core infrastructure.
Design and specify new systems for all 49 court locations.
Transition Second District (Albuquerque) from legacy AIX to Linux.
Provide security and maximum uptime for court-specific case databases.

Dec 2002 – Aug 2006: Systems and Network Administrator, Daylight CIS, Santa Fe, NM.
Senior staff responsible for all computer systems, networking, phones, and building security. Highlights include:
Complete rework of all of Daylight’s systems, including a new Internet connection, router, firewall, internal NIS structure, file server, DNS servers wireless, and backups.
Redesigned internal (gigabit) and external network layout, employing a Netscreen-based NAT network with dual DMZs and VPN capability for employees.
Complete design, setup, and teardown of offsite heterogeneous networks for three of Daylight’s annual User Group Meetings, two in Santa Fe, one in San Diego.
Replaced outdated systems and implemented platform support for Linux on AMD64, IA64, and OS X.
Took over support of phone system (Nortel) and alarm system to reduce use of outside vendors.
Significantly improved computer security.
Acted as technical advisory for the company to identify trends in the industry.

June 2000 – Dec 2002: Senior Systems Administrator (12/01 - 12/02) / Senior Technical Engineer (6/00 - 12/01), Sun Microsystems, San Diego, CA.
Sr. Systems Administrator of CTO Physical Sciences Center / RAS Computer Analysis Laboratories. Responsible for computer support for Sun’s advanced research group, as well as providing technical advice to projects from a practical standpoint. Highlights include:
Creating a data center environment to be used both for research and production, with systems ranging from Sun Fire 15K and Enterprise 10000 to blade systems.
Work with scientists on various research projects, both for support and advice.
Maintain and troubleshoot a heterogeneous network of not only Sun systems, but systems from other vendors.
Interface lab networks to Sun’s corporate network.
Previously part of a team of fly-and-fix troubleshooters for Sun’s high-end (Enterprise 10000 and Sun Fire 15K) servers. Duties included accepting difficult customer and internal escalations and driving to a close. As well as:
Working with product engineering to solve existing problems and prevent them in the future.
Authoring and reviewing internal and customer technical alerts and resolutions.
Development and review of courseware, both internal and external.
Analyze product quality issues and report trends to Sun’s executive management.
Mentor junior engineers and engineers from other groups.
Present information and techniques to train other engineers.

June 1996 – May 2000: Systems Operations Manager, National Center for Genome Resources, Santa Fe, NM.
Responsible for all computer systems, security (physical and electronic) and telecommunications systems. Highlights include:
Created Systems group from scratch. Implemented an entirely new computing infrastructure.
Purchase, installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of a 5+ million-dollar (list) Sun E10000 HPC supercomputer (64-way), as well as a number of other large servers.
Redesign of entire network from scratch, creating a 100Mbit switched network with a firewalled T3 Internet connection and an OC-3 connection between buildings.
Obtained over $500,000 worth of donations and grants for the center.
Created a backup system using large tape robots.
Worked with many collaborators to develop secure methods of collaborations.
Member of the Project Oversight Committee, responsible for overseeing all programs at the center.
Responsible for a multi-million-dollar yearly budget.
Presented at SuperComputing ’99 (SC99) conference as a Sun partner.

Feb. 1996 – May 1996: Systems Coordinator, CommTek Communications, Rio Rancho, NM.
Responsible for managing IS department, as well as coordination and implementation of an accounting and sales system. Restructuring led to elimination of position. Moved from New York to New Mexico to oversee implementation of new system, as well as a general redesign of the IT infrastructure.

June 1993 – Feb. 1996: Systems & Support Analyst, TV Data Technologies, Queensbury, NY.
Responsible for a multitude of enterprise-wide hardware and software solutions. Highlights include:
Designed Pentium-based systems running Solaris x86 as “back-end” solutions in a production environment.
Supervised a major architecture transition, moving from RSX-11M Plus (PDP-11) to a mixed OpenVMS/Solaris/Digital UNIX environment.
Part of a three-person team that redesigned the core production process, significantly reducing overhead and increasing on-time efficiency from 80% to over 99%.
Evaluated and selected an Internet service provider, supervised installation of service, including purchasing hardware, designing firewall, and implementing automated FTP for clients.
Traveled to numerous customer sites to implement solutions and perform training. Also performed several delicate calls, where critical customers needed not only a solution, but some calming as well.
Wrote a well-received end-user manual for TV Data’s TransEdit software package.
